WARNING |
Lately, e-mails are sent to private individuals by a firm called "Global Pacific Securities and Vault Services".
They sometimes use the name of Software AG Foundation.
In said e-mails, the recipient is told that he/she is a participant in a so called "New Hope Lottery" hosted by Software AG Foundation,
and that he/she is the winner of several million dollars. The recipient is then asked to open an account at a particular bank,
where he/she is to deposit $5,000 in order for the winnings to be credited. This way the addressors try to collect the $5,000 from
gullible receipients.
Several Threat Boards on the internet inform that the originators of such e-mails in all probability are from Nigerian criminal organizations.
They have been conspicious in the past due to the sending of mass-emails with fraudulent contents
(see http://downlode.org/scams/lottery/ and
http://www.crimes-of-persuasion.com/Nigerian/security_companies.htm ) and who act under several names, i.e. Humboldt-Stiftung (see http://www.talkaboutspam.com/group/alt.kill.spammers/messages/10865.html ) and Koch-Stiftung (see http://www.talkaboutspam.com/group/alt.kill.spammers/messages/10865.html ).
We particularly emphasize that Software AG-Stiftung did not host any kind of lottery, nor does Software AG-Stiftung stand in any connection
with the contents of such e-mails.
After learning about these fraudulent e-mails, Software AG-Stiftung immediately initiated legal steps against the originators of same.
However, since the originators only operate through anonymous foreign fax numbers and non-registered e-mail accounts, it remains
questionable if they will be found.
Please, do not contact us about this or any related issue. Your mail will be treated as spam.
Software AG - Stiftung, Juli 2004
